The Majors: The Opposition

The Sun is who you are at noon—the Ego, the Hero, the mask you wear to burn brightly in the world. The Moon is who you are at midnight—the Soul, the Mother, the history written in your blood.

When they oppose one another (180°), you are born under the sign of the Full Moon. You are split. The Hero looks across the canyon and sees the Mother staring back. The Ego wants to conquer; the Soul wants to retreat.

This is the primary fracture of the human psyche. If the Sun ignores the Moon, he burns alone, brittle and dry. If the Moon ignores the Sun, she drowns in the dark waters of instinct, voiceless and obscure.

Do not seek balance. Balance is for accountants. This aspect requires fusion.

The Sun (Ego) burns. The Moon (Soul) reflects. When they oppose, they are not enemies; they are the two poles of a battery. If you separate them, the current dies.

The Work (Opus) is to force them to speak. You must drag the Moon’s terrors into the Sun’s light, and you must drown the Sun’s arrogance in the Moon’s deep waters. This is not a marriage of peace. It is a marriage of necessity. It is the only way to forge a consciousness that can survive both the noon and the midnight.

The ancients understood that the Moon is not merely a satellite; it is a membrane between worlds. As Virgil wrote in The Aeneid: “Two gates the silent house of Sleep adorn; / Of polish’d ivory this, that of transparent horn: / True visions thro’ transparent horn arise; / Thro’ polish’d ivory pass deluding lies.”

The Opposition forces you to stand at this gate. If the Sun does not illuminate the Moon, the "deluding lies" of the ivory gate take hold.

We see this specific geometric struggle in the breakdown between Sigmund Freud & Carl Jung. In their synastry, the Sun(1) is prominently featured in both a conjunction and a sextile, anchoring structural connectivity, while the Moon(1) appears in two semisextiles, revealing a pattern of close geometric interaction. They failed to integrate the Horn and the Ivory, and their empire of the mind fractured.
